Uribia has very few restaurants, with a few hole-in-the wall ones down in the market district on Avenida Fundador, where the majority of general stores are as well. Buy plenty of water here if going into the Alta Guajira, as it is much more expensive elsewhere ($1.60 for a five-liter jug of the precious liquid). Goat forms a principle part of Wayuu cuisine, in such dishes as like friche (stewed goat). Another meal to try is sahpulana, a soup made of beans, corn and squash. The traditional drink is chinchirri, a strong alcoholic beverage made from panela (raw sugar) and water.

Nightlife
Because of the presence of military personnel and other non-Wayuu, a few dance clubs and drinking establishments do operate in Uribia, despite such customs not being part of the Wayuu way of life. They are mostly the evening operations of restaurants.
