Mompós is a town which has been unaffected by many of Colombia's ills. Simply put, on an island with nowhere to run and fewer places to hide, Mompós has been left alone. In the outer barrios on the other side of the highway, Mompós is growing significantly due to land invasions by people displaced by the conflict in other areas. Mompós itself is incredibly safe. Imagine a town where, once the sun has set, entire families pull their rocking chairs out onto their front porches and sit, doors open, chatting with passersby.
