Without a doubt, Mompós' one real high season is that of Semana Santa, when the streets are filled with Nazarenes and processions of tourists from all over Colombia. In December and January the normally sleepy town receives an income boost from returning family members for the holidays and tours from the coast. Aside from these times, however, life in Mompós is otherwise slow.
The months of April and May and September through October are considered the wet season here, with heavy downpours that can keep temperatures in the upper 20s. Outside of these months Mompós is hot and dry and routinely above 30 degrees.
August 6 marks the Independence of Mompós. On and around this date there are rodeos, and revelers can enjoy more than a few cold ones while listening to the booming sound equipment set up along the Alberrada (the riverside road and parks)
