Stretching along two km and ending dramatically as the ocean's fury makes a meal of the rocks that border El Almejal, here can be found one of the Colombian Pacific coast's most telling beaches. On the one hand you have nature in all its glory, the possiblity to surf or just brave the waves in the shallows and on the other, you can see what may be coming...progress and construction. When we passed through here, diggers and trucks trundled along the beach collecting rocks and sand for nearby resorts. I fear that what is most precious to El Almejal is its tranquility and that this may be lost in years to come. Visit now before the hordes discover one of Colombia's best kept secrets, the pacific coast.

Getting There
Walk a couple of km north from the town, you can't miss it.

Travel Tips: out of season the beach is deserted and many of the guesthouses are closed, be prepared.
