Hammocks surrounded by palm trees, twelve open-air lodges (each with their own bathroom), butterfly gardens, compost and hiking paths all equal the sustainable eco lodge, El Almejal Ecohotel, on Playa Almejal.

The restaurant uses herbs and vegetables grown on-site in their worm-fed garden. Anyone who appreciates a beautiful place, a handful of paradise, should appreciate this rain forest and beach lodge.

If you came to this part of the Colombian Pacific coast for the opportunity to see some whales. There aren't too many hotels, like Almejal, that have their own whale watching towers. Don't forget your binoculars.

The eco lodge helps put together eco tourism packages to the nearby nature reserve and to the turtle conservation project.
