Nuquí Overview

+ Add a Photo

By Richard McColl

While Nuqui has some services that cater to the tourist trade, it is really better known as the jumping off point for excursions into the surrounding area.

The beach that lies in front of Nuqui and looks out into the vast Gulf of Tribuga is expansive and strewn with driftwood.

If you have organized to spend your time at one of the award winning eco-lodges that are situated nearby, you will likely be met at the airport at the eastern end of town and after registering with the DAS official and paying a tourist tax ($1.50) will be swept off in a motorboat to your chosen destination.

There are no banks and electricity is scarce at the best of times.

The hotels in town are located in the northern sector, a mere five minutes walk from the airport and aside from these Nuqui itself has very little to offer.

It is the surroundings that you have come for. You are here for exploring the mangroves in Coqui, the hot springs at Termales, the surf at Cabo Corrientes and the waterfalls and wonder of the Utria National Park.
