If whale watching is on the itinerary, tours are a must. Most places are now aware of the correct behavior around the whales and their young, and most guides maintain a respectful distance. Along the entire coast, tours are easily found for trips to places like Parque Nacional Natural Ensenada de UtrĂa. To get to Isla Gorgona, it may be necessary to organize a tour through Aviatur. So many sightseeing opportunities on this Pacific coast are available through big package tours. Signing up with a company in advance will usually mean having all your meals and accommodations looked after, and is the cheaper option.
Tours to Isla Guacán and Isla Verde cost $15 and last about five hours, departing at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. You must have a group of at least five or pay for the empty spaces. Tours can be arranged by Enrique Barrera at Carrera 1A, 18-35, a restaurant near the river bank close to Plaza del Moral.
