A small, non-descript building of white-painted brick stands alone on an "island" lot at the bend of Playa El Morro's beach road. Peering into the windows, you can glimpse drums, baskets and jewelry. Once inside, you walk into the creative world of Tumaco's artisans using natural materials from these islands: Earrings from coconut, jewelry made from sea shells; hand-made conuno drums and marimbas, to be acompanied by rampira-wrapped maracas. This same plant is used to craft covered bowls. Tetera is another plant woven into containers. If the shop is not open, ask dons Clara at the taller on the corner across the road.

Getting There: From Tumaco, take a combi to Playa El Morro.
