Neiva is a city that is moving ahead in terms of tourism. A key intermediary city in this part of the country, Neiva has traditionally connected conventional tourist destinations like Popayán and San Agustín to more off the beaten track places such as Caquetá and Putumayo. But major efforts are being made to make the city more aesthetically pleasing. From the shady Parque Santander in the heart of the city to the Malecón del Rio Magdalena at the river’s edge, visitors here will find Neiva has increasingly more to offer. And if the city doesn’t capture your fancy then it makes a perfect base from which to explore the attractions in the surrounding parts of Huila, such as the Tatacoa Desert in the north and Parque Isla on the opposite side of the Magdalena. If you can, be sure to get to Neiva in June for the notoriously riotous festivals that take place here.
