Feria de las Flores - Culture And Arts Medellín - Colombia

It is no secret that 80 percent of all cut flowers grown in Colombia are sold to the United States, and the Feria de las Flores shows why. Recognized as the most important and traditional feria in Medellín, this festival brings the city to a halt in a flower-scented and brightly colored gridlock for more than a week at the end of July and beginning of August. Parades of garlands float through the city streets, but it is the Silleteros Parade (2007 marked the 50th year of this competition) that defines the whole week, when elaborate and complex presentation of flowers are paraded and judged. Also to be enjoyed are the classic car, mule and orchid parades.
