City Park

By Richard McColl

Considered the lungs of Medellin, the Jardin Botanico Joaquin Antonio Uribe is a delightful leafy and tranquil destination within the confines of the bustling city.

The verdant wealth contained within the garden's fourteen hectares ranges from a spectacular orchid - the country's national flower - collection to flora found all through Colombia's regions.

Aside from being a pleasant place to escape from the rigors of city life there is an emphasis here on ecology, education and entertainment. There is a strong environmental message pushed through environmental education with school visits being the norm. Researchers also regularly visit the garden's library.

Check listings as concerts are often performed in the garden.
