When the city planners in Medellin decided to come up with the idea of creating a Pueblito Paisa - typical antiquian village - replica on the Nutibara hill, Santa Fe de Antioquia was what they had in mind.

A bus journey of 1.5 to two hours from Medellin's Terminal del Norte bus station takes you out of the Aburra Valley and into the heartland of the region. High roads lead all the way to Santa Fe.

Also known as "Ciudad Madre," the town is a national monument recognised for having well maintained and antiquated cobbled streets, whitewashed walls, historical churches and breezy plazas.

The first Spanish settlement in the area was founded in 1541 by Mariscal Jorge Robledo and was an agricultural and mining village.

Aside from wandering the quaint streets there is the Museo de Arte Religioso, Museo Juan del Corral and the Casa del Nino Tomas for the visitor to occupy themselves. Some 6km away there is the famous Puente de Occidente, measuring 291m in length, constructed in 1895.

Getting There
From the Terminal del Norte bus station in Medellin head to either Gomez Hernandez or Sotrauraba companies (they run on alternate days about once an hour van $4.50, bus $4) and the journey should take between 1.5 and 2 hours.
