First erected for the Priest of Quito in 1539, then later torn down and rebuilt in 1772, again in 1841, and one last time in 1930, this church has undergone several alterations. Inside and out, it is simple and understated, with stark white walls and ceilings, accentuated by seven gorgeous crystal chandeliers above the center aisle and an enormous wooden organ on the second floor. Take some time to admire the nice marble image of Jesus seated next to St. Peter. The side chapel is also a solemn place to pay homage to the Virgin Mary. On the way out, look at the bronze work by artist William EcheverrÃa on the doors.
