Cali is a confusing city as street numbers appear to have little rhyme nor rhythm. Take the river as a major landmark and the Intercontinental Hotel and look up at the hills to see the Christ the Redeemer statue and the Tres Cruces and this will go some way towards helping you get your bearings. Wherever you are going, be sure to have the address written correctly since Avenida 4 is going to be a far different alternative to Avenida 4 Norte! The best way of avoiding such problems is by finding out exactly which Barrio it is you need to get to. Buses are fairly straightforward and have their destinations plastered over the front window. For the most part they travel on the main roads and each journey costs $0.70. An efficient, new bus system called the MIO covers most of the city and runs in designated lanes. The flat fare is about $0.60 per trip.
