La Ermita

Location:
Centro, Cali, Colombia

Other Activity Types:
Church

By Brenda Yun

Its original name was “Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad del Río,” and in the early 1600's it was a small, baroque chapel. It was destroyed in 1787. Today stands a very different yet gorgeous gothic structure, built in 1942 and modeled after the cathedral in Cologne, Germany. The attention to detail and its curious pale blue and white color makes La Ermita a city symbol and it is certainly the most photographed church in all of Cali.
