By Brenda Yun

This lively hostel in the Zona Rosa, about 15 minutes from El Centro by bus, has been open for almost five years now and is already a well-oiled machine. The owners, both named Christina, have a really good system of service. This hostel has four dorm rooms that sleep up to eight people and two private rooms. The spotless 24-hour kitchen is available to prepare breakfast, which is included in the price, or use the barbecue out back to cook up a hearty dinner. Cesar, a biology major at the University, keeps fantastic company when he is on duty at the House and can tell you all about nature excursions and bird watching in the area. The other helpers are equally amiable local experts with a vast knowledge of Manizales.

To get here: Hop on any bus that goes to El Stadio or El Cable and get off at Calle 66.
