There is plenty of shopping to be had along Avenida Bolívar (or Carrera 14), where you can walk a dozen blocks down a new pedestrian walkway that extends from Plaza Bolívar (cross street: Calle 21) to the hospital (on Calle 9). On weekends, this street is packed with people in need of some retail therapy. Artisan shops, drugstores, clothing boutiques, and bigger malls line both sides of the street, so you’ll be sure to find what you’re looking for. Pedestrians are the privileged ones here, as cars cross the road slowly, giving shoppers the right of way.

I have been coming to Arminia since 2001, and in 2008 I moved there after 25 years in London. Armenia is a city that is special in a lot of ways and very safe. I have seen so many changes since 2001. You can walk down the streets safely with no cars and pollution, and the mall it is brillant now. In the north sits the SAO shopping centre, which is big and has a lot of shops. When the weather is hot they can roll back the roof and you see a clear blue sky. Don't beleive all the bad press about Colombia. For me it is safer than London, and it's time the Colombian tourist board put a stop to all the bad press. Yes, it has its share of problems, but it is a very special country.
