Manizales, Colombia

Coffee farm

By Brenda Yun

Just 15 minutes outside of Chinchina, one of Colombia’s coffee centers, is this gorgeous coffee farm and home stay. Hacienda Guayabal is a totally self-sufficient farm that exports its coffee to far-off places like Japan and Spain. For $8 you can take a 3-hour tour and learn more than you need to about the production of coffee. If you work on the farm, then you sleep on site for free. Or, just relax in this lush green heaven for just $45 a night (all-inclusive).

To get there: From Manizales, take the bus to Chinchina ($2, 30 minutes). Catch another bus in front of the main church to Guayabal (50 cents, 10 minutes). Get off at Guayabal and walk through the town and up the hill to the Hacienda (10 minutes).
