Ucumari National Park is one of Colombia's best locations to spot local birds, animals and plant life. The variations in altitude in this area make Ucumari a biologically diverse region. Because the park covers some ten miles in diameter, the best and pretty much only way to experience it is to hire a tour guide. With a guide you can visit local waterfalls, hike in the forest hoping to spot especially interesting birds or maybe even find a spectacled bear, though few in number, still dwell in the region.

Dormitories and camping is available in the park or there are also accommodations and tourist services to Ucumari in nearby Los Nevados National Park.

Ucumari is about an hour from Pereira, on the way to La Florida and Los Nevados. Unfortunately the terrain here is very rugged, so you have to walk 30 minutes to get into the park itself.

If you are serious about visiting Ucumari, plan on taking a day to get there and back to Pereira (or four hours each way) and for a full day with a guide in the park.
