Like all larger cities, it’s best to use caution when walking alone in Pereira at night. Some streets even in the center of town are not particularly well lit in the evening, so it would be wise to take a cab if you are walking long distances. There have been recent reports of students carrying armed weapons, despite the seeming lack of crime in Pereira. For the most part, tourists sticking to the city center around Plaza Boívar will feel perfectly safe, but should be aware of pickpockets and use basic common sense.
