Safety

The Zona Cafetera is a very laid-back part of Colombia. Travelers will feel particularly safe and secure in the smaller towns. The larger cities are generally safe, even at night. However, the usual precautions are advised.

Until recently, Pijao, a town near Armenia, was known by locals as a base for the FARC. However, the situation has improved
significantly and you shouldn’t experience any problems here.

Always ask tourist information offices about areas to avoid, or ask your hotel about the city’s dangerous neighborhoods. These locations change fairly frequently, as both rural and urban areas in this region are experiencing growth

Here are some related tips to help plan your trip to Zona Cafetera: When to Go, Safety, When to Go, When to Go, When to Go and Safety.
