Hiking Reventador - Hiking Baeza - Ecuador

Reventador Volcano has been erupting intermittently since 2002 so the route has been changing and it may even be too dangerous to climb. However, it is a unique geological and ecological landscape to visit. Its recent eruptive history and location on the edge of the Oriente have created interesting landforms and habitats that are rapidly changing.

Note: This volcano is currently erupting and extremely dangerous to climb. The refuge is still present and most of the trail is intact, but there are new lava flows and periodic ash eruptions. It is likely, however, that this volcano will evolve into a dormant status again in the next few years. Check its status with the SAE, the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program (www.volcano.si.edu) or the Instituto Geofi sico de Escuela Politécnica Nacional (www.igepn.edu.ec). For more information about Reventador, see the Ecuador: Climbing and Hiking Guide.
