Macas is a fairly large city in southeastern Ecuador, and offers a great starting off point for an Amazon expedition. In Macas, accommodations don't vary to widely in terms of price or quality, and most find a happy medium between budget and luxury. However, you will find some places that offer amenities such as spas and pools, and other ones that are barely passable. However, there are plenty of options and if you're dissatisfied with one, you can always head down the street.
