The aptly named La Maravilla (“the marvel”) is undoubtedly one of the best places to have a drink and snack in Macas. Set in a fairy tale-like wooden house, the friendly and inviting café/bar is decorated with indigenous artifacts and photos from the region. Sitting on the small veranda or in the warm glow of the lamps inside, you can order plates of cheese and other snacks para picar (to pick on). The meat dishes are served with yucca and are very reasonably priced; the restaurant also has hot and cold drinks, including guayusa, a traditional infusion that can come spiked with a shot of cane alcohol. There even is a room for playing cards.
