La Isla de Los Monos

Location:
Tena, Ecuador

City Park

By Kristi Mohrbacher

La Isla de los Monos has been declared a protected rescue area for monkeys and other wildlife. Before you even enter, you may hear the competitive cry of the howler monkey from nearly a mile away.  In the trees overhead, you can hear many different species of monkeys as they chase each other in an endless game of tag.  A few of the friendlier monkeys won't hesitate to drop on down to meet you, tease you and run off with your things if you let them. Besides the playful antics of the monkeys, you can hold a boa constrictor, view brightly colored birds, jungle cats and countless of interesting species.

There is also a hosteria here with comfortable cabins, a tasty restaurant and a bar.  There are pools to take a dip in when the sun gets too hot, and there are trails throughout the forest that allow you to get close to nature.
