Think of Tena as the house in which Goldilocks trespassed. Tena has a bed that’s just right for you, whether you want an ecological experience, comfort, convenience or a bed that’s dirt-cheap.
If you’re willing to sleep in the city outskirts, you’ll get more than just a bed. For little more than you would pay downtown, get a room that overlooks the city and jungle. Relax in a hammock while you bask in Tena’s cool breeze. Farther into the jungle you get a truly unique experience. Some jungle lodges outside the city have developed environmentally conscious accommodations and use amenities such as solar electric lighting. Ask your lodge to hook you up with jungle tours or look into special packages with rooms included.
The night before donning a headlamp to go cave spelunking, check in to a centrally-located hotel for a solid night of sleep. Rooms come with cable TV, A/C and comfortable beds. Listen to the river wash by while you and your friends chat on the terrace.
If you stop in Tena for no more than some shut-eye, then pay $5 for a hostel near the bus station. Although these hostels lack character, they’re cheap and convenient. Be warned that you may awake feeling crummy, not from a crazy night on the town, but rather from being kept awake by the street noise.
