Owner‘s Description

Sapo Rumi Travel Agency is an authentic, community based tour agency run by Misael and Dario Cerda, two Quichua natives who have 5+ years of experience. They speak Spanish and a little English and are certified guides who are friendly and professional.

Adventures they offer include jungle trips from Tena (day and multi-day) and jungle trips to the Limoncocha biological reserve (multi-day).

A sample itinerary in Tena includes: staying in traditionally made cabañas or with a Quichua host family, rafting or tubing on the Napo river, horseback riding, walks to beautiful waterfalls, jungle hikes of varying levels of intensity, overnight camping, a visit to a Quichua cultural museum, viewing ancient petroglyphs and sharing in Quichua culture such as family meals, shamanic rituals and the making of traditional handicrafts.

A sample itinerary in the Limoncocha biological reserve includes: an experience of Quichua river life and travel by canoe, a stay in a beautifully constructed traditional cabaña, experiencing the rich animal life of the deeper jungle- including crocodiles, monkeys, and a colorful array of birds, fishing for pirana, swinging on jungle vines in the style of Tarzan, viewing ancient huge trees, participating in shamanic rituals, and learning about the incredible variety of medicinal and luminous plants, and daytime and nighttime guided walks to explore the beauty of the jungle.

To further experience Quichua life in the jungle, and to aid in the preservation of the land and the culture, there is a volunteer program run by Napo Runa volunteer, a sister program to Sapo Rumi. Volunteers can live directly in the Quichua community of Uchuculin and participate in such projects as environmental education, animal breeding and protection, organic cultivation, and teaching English.

Prices range from $30 - $45 per person per day; Volunteer programs are $5-$10 dollars a day depending on length of stay.
