Parque Etnobotánico Omaere - Park Puyo - Ecuador

Located about five minutes walking from the northeast edge of Puyo, el Parque Etnobotánico Omaere gives those who do not have enough time to go deeper into the jungle the opportunity to experience an Amazonian forest. The park stretches over 15 hectares (38 acres) and contains an impressive collection of the most important plants to Amazonian indigenous peoples, together with an impressive variety of uncaged birds, butterflies and other animals. Guided walks typically last one to two hours. Omaere is also culturally enriching, as the guide will explain in traditional houses about the ancestral life of the Shuar and the Waorani (2 tribes that were never conquered) and show some of their artifacts. The admission fee includes a guided tour, making it a great value. The walk may also be in English, especially if reserved. Volunteers are welcome for generally at least a month. Natural medicine is prepared and ecological sanitation is explained.
