El Centro is the place with the greatest concentration of restaurants in Ambato. In this area, you can see different restaurants roasting chickens almost everywhere you look. There are a variety of quality levels among the restaurants, as well, and the ones that appear to be cleaner are likely your best bet. In addition to chicken, you can find Ecuadorian food, pizza and even shawarmas in Ambato. If you are only in town for a short while, wander downtown for a gelato. There are a few shops that sell the frozen treat, and their offerings are all delicious and cheap, with prices around 50 cents for a cone. If you happen to be in Ambato over night, there are a couple of bars that you should check out. El Coyote is a discoteca located on Bolívar and Guayaquil. Cerveceria Bufalo, located on Olmedo and Mera, is another option for either drinking or dancing.
