As you’re wandering down Av. Cevallos, wondering where the parades are, El Álamo Chalet will likely catch your eye. The restaurant, which has an inviting exterior, is filled with dark wood and crystal and has prices in the mid- to low- range. While El Álamo aspires to be affordably posh – and features a wide range of options – the meals fall sadly short. El Álamo's menu has breakfast and lunch specials, soups, meat dishes, sandwiches, chicken, spaghetti and has a long list of alcoholic beverages. But the fried chicken is dry and the Chilean-style empanadas are almost inedible. If you’re interested in a palatable meal, stick with ceviches and llapingachos – a meal made from potato pancakes, chorizo sausage, avocados, salad and a fried egg (a dish known elsewhere as an Ambatino). In terms of service, you might find that your order arrives quickly, but flagging down a server for the bill is nearly impossible. El Álamo is best as a lunch stop when you are having trouble finding other options. The mains range in price from $4.20 to $8.90 (for meat dishes), while sandwiches cost between $2 and $3.15.

This cozy restaurant feels straight out of the Wild West with its all wooden walls and large wooden booths. Even the décor has a definite old time American feel. However, one look at the menu and you will be reminded that you are indeed still in Ecuador. The restaurant serves up mostly Ecuadorian cuisine, your normal rice and meat sort of entrees. However, the food is tasty and portion sizes are good. The restaurant has also has a full bar, making it a good choice for an evening cocktail or two. Entrees run between $4 and $6, and credit cards are accepted.
