El Otro Lado, "The Other Side," is about 1 km off the main road from Baños to Puyo on the path to the Pailón del Diablo waterfall just across the suspended bridge. As of November 2004, the cabañas were closed for remodeling but were planning to open in December 2004, so call ahead if you want to stay deep in the forest and be lulled to sleep by the rushing waterfall a few meters away. The open-air restaurant has great views of the waterfall and is a perfect place to build up energy for the hike back up to the road.

The cabañas sleep four and are $35/night. El Otro Lado restaurant has appetizers, salads, Mexican dishes and some vegetarian dishes all for under $4.

It has been a couple of years since my trip, but I remember it as if it were yesterday. This turned out to be the experience of a lifetime. It is located in such an adventurous and gorgeous setting. My wife was concerned about the hot water running out, but what do you expect? I told her that it is not a 5-star hotel. ;) Make sure to plan your trip in the spring when El Pailon Del Diablo is roaring from the meltoff. Best of luck to my friends at El Otro Lado! The Other Side of life

As soon as you enter this 150-acre private nature reserve, you understand the meaning of tranquility! A private waterfall to bathe under, completly private and secluded cabins, amazing fauna and flora, great views of 5 different waterfalls, and very safe.  I loved it here.

El Otro Lado is THEEEEE home of the Andean Cock of The Rock (Gallo de la Pen~a ) OVER 10 males in the lake, a 10 minute walk from the cabins. Also a great waterfall to shower under.
