Hacienda Manteles

Located about a half-hour from Baños, Hacienda Manteles is an elegant, full service hostería. First constructed in 1580, Hacienda Manteles is one of the oldest in Ecuador. The establishment is relatively small, with only 10 rooms, each with private bath and hot water. There is also an on-site restaurant, specializing in traditional cuisine.

One of the greatest advantages to Hacienda Manteles is its location. The hacienda is close to all of the activities that Baños has to offer, such as waterfall viewing, biking, jungle excursions and trips to the market town of Salasaca. The hacienda owns 250 acres of rainforest, and part of their profit goes to preservation. Because of the location, you can find several species of hummingbirds and orchids on the Manteles' grounds.

On a clear day, you can take a trip to La Cuchilla volcano observatory, from where it is possible to see five volcanoes: Tungurahua, Carihuayrazo, Chimborazo, Iliniza and El Altar. The hacienda also offers activities such as horseback riding, bird watching and “agriculture day,” in which guests are encouraged to participate in the planting and care of local crops.

Breakfast is included in the price, along with a welcome cocktail and coffee. Meals typically run from $8-12 per person and can be obtained at the restaurant.

Traveler Reviews of Hacienda Manteles

Wonderful Place

Loved the rustic environment; we had a wonderful time rappelling and canoeing. The staff was really friendly and made us feel at home. One of the best haciendas in Ecuador. Marcelo & Karina

A must

For me and my family Hacienda Manteles was one of the best places we visited in Ecuador. The athmosphere was great, the personalized service we had was wanderful and the company of the owners was fantastic. We enjoyed all the activities and tours we did. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful Hacienda.

Not Good Value

The hacienda is not worth the money. It is too rustic. If you are looking for luxury, this is not your hacienda. Much too loud. Not enough staff to provide service to a full house. The food is simply average.

One Enchanted Evening

Our family stumbled onto this place by accident on the internet and what a wonderful surprise. We spent an enchanted evening watching Tungurahua erupt from the window of the beautiful house at the hacienda. The owners, Cesar and Guadalupe, were such great hosts that even after being there for just a few days it was hard to leave. The grounds are beautiful, there are great walks and hikes around the area, and most of all the natural landscape and beauty of the cloud forest can be enjoyed from the hacienda without distractions. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return some day. The Smith Family.

Unforgettable Holiday

I really enjoyed being attended by the owners of the Hacienda. They are really nice people who made our stay unforgettable. The food was excellent, as well as the service.
