At first, one wonders whether it´s a good idea to opt for a hostel called Transilvania, in the middle of Ecuador. But don´t be mistaken by the name (which actually means “forest”) because the three year old hostel has a great reputation in Baños. In the morning, pull up a log seat and sit down at one of the five petrified wood tables where you will be served copious amounts of fruit with your choice of pancakes or granola.  Owners, Itai and Janeth are very warm, as is the staff that they’ve hired on, many of whom speak not only English but also Hebrew. They’ll arrange a Chiva tour for you to see the Tungurahua Volcano at night. Rooms are bright and clean and have private bathrooms, but are a little cramped. However, leather “count” chairs line the halls and are perfect for out of room lounging.

It's similar to the hostel in Montanita: Tierra Promita. Really great atmosphere!
