A gorgeous luxury hotel and spa set in the mountains above Baños with breathtaking views of Tungurahua Volcano, Llanganates National Park and Baños below. Swiss owned and managed, the service is consistently good and friendly. In 2007 Luna Runtun added a network of outdoor pools and jacuzzis overlooking its spectacular view and a nearby ecological reserve that is protecting the diverse habitat on the slopes of Tungurahua. In 2008 they launched a new poolside cafe open to the public (the restaurant is for guests only).

Services offered at the spa include body treatments like volcanic ash and salt exfoliation, honey exfoliation, rose bath, etc. from $15 - 25; massages from $14 - 36; facials for $15; hair care; manicures and pedicures for $10; and waxing for $5 - 15.

Luna Runtun is 6 km off the main Baños - Puyo road. To get their from Baños, get a taxi, rent a car or make arrangements through a tour company. You can stay in Baños and go to the spa as a day trip or stay at the spa as long as you like.

For overnight guests, rooms range in price from $70 - 245 per room which includes a welcome cocktail, dinner, breakfast and full use of the sauna.

A new addition to the Luna Runtún complex is Café del Cielo, the coffee shop/bar with arguably the best view in town. Order one of the 34 types of coffee and some tapas, crepes or sandwiches and sit back to enjoy a view of Tungurahua volcano, the Andes and the city of Baños. Prices range from $1 to $5. Café del Cielo is open all year long from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a full bar available.

Great Experience

We didn't have to leave the hotel to get the best experience of Baños. The price is very fair, the breakfast and dinner are included and the food is GOOD. The spa is the best-- the massages are very cheap. The service is world-class quality. We will come back again for sure.

Some friends recommended us Luna Runtun. However, we never imagined that this place was so beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed the good food and accommodation, the nice staff and the incredible views from the swimming pools. 3 days were really too short!

We have enjoyed the perfect service at all times, the very good food, the extraordinary and unique location with its breathtaking views and the company of an well educated guide, Rodrigo. Imagine the most beautiful, rustic, secluded, yet luxurious place on earth...you have Luna Runtun. Nested in the folds of the active volcano's base, you have a view of the entire town of Banos down below. We hiked the three hours up the volcano from Banos, but you can also take a taxi up the backside of the volcano. Don't miss this. If the rooms are out of your price range, go up for a massage during the day and then have a magnificent dinner in their open air restaraunt. You will not regret it!

Baños is amazing! Luna Runtun is a beautiful place with a wonderful atmosphere, but for the price the rooms could be of better quality. The place lacks a playground for children.

Spectacular Scenery at Luna Runtun

Luna Runtun is set in the most spectacular setting, above Banos with huge views of Llanganates National Park and Tungurahua Volcano looming overhead. Treat yourself to wonderful spa treatments at a fraction of what they'd cost in US and Europe. There are lots of adventurous activites in the surrounding area. Luna Runtun is in a class way above the hostels and budget hostels in Banos and cost is also high compared to the rest, but if you want to treat yourself to a world class relax its worth it.

I LOOOOVED the half- day spa treatment here, but found the lunch overpriced -- $20 for just your basic Ecuadorian fare. The views and atmosphere are breathtaking though.
