Baños is a popular tourist destination for both Ecuadorians and foreigners alike, so you shouldn't be surprised to find that the town has a great number of places to eat. Baños’ main street is lined with restaurants that provide a wide range of options, including many fast food joints, bars and grills, ice cream parlors, and the central market where you can get a taste of cuy (guinea pig). If you venture just one block away from the main street, you will find a great number of small Ecuadorian restaurants that offer typical almuerzos (set lunches) of soup, rice and chicken and a glass of juice for a few dollars.
Baños also boasts a couple of high-quality restaurants, which have varied menus, international fare and vegetarian options. You will be able to find Mexican food, Swiss specialties, French cuisine, Spanish tapas, and pub chow all in this small town. Fighting for tourist dollars, many places also have cool atmospheres in addition to delicious food. You may also notice many locals stretching taffy along Baños' main boulevards; this is called melcocha and is a regional specialty, be sure to try some before you leave!
