Ecuador’s Best Ice Cream

It may come as a surprise, when you see the sign for this local eatery, that a shop claiming to have Ecuador’s Best Ice Cream is not to be found at the beach or in a major city, but on the main street of a small town called Baños (at least according to the owners of this ambitiously named establishment).

The ice cream is good, but the sign is a misnomer. While the heladería draws in many people, travelers and Ecuadorians alike, some customers may leave disappointed. Although the ice cream is satisfactory, there is nothing to suggest that the 12 flavors are actually the best Ecuador has to offer.

As well as cheap ice cream (cones start from 0.90 cents) there are also coffees, banana splits and a hot chocolate sauce. But the sauces are the only part of the eatery which might actually hold the title of "best in Ecuador."

I reckon it was the best!

I think the owners knew what they were doing when they appropriately named this little shop. While the menu isn't extensive...and the chocolate ice cream comes with raisins... the fudge is muuuuuy rico!
