Ecuador is a fantastic country for birdwatching. There are over 50 different types of hummingbirds in the country, and some of them can be even be seen in the middle of Quito. Hummingbird feeders at many resorts attract the hummingbirds and make it easier to spot and photograph them.
Mindo is one of the most famous birdwatching destinations and various types of hummingbirds are easily seen there.
Getting more off the beaten track you can see hummingbirds in San Luis de Pambil, in Bolivar Province. CRACYP, a reforestation charity there, can organise tours through its ecotourism projects. Their website devotes a page to hummingbirds. The 'hummingbird photo gallery' gives you an idea of the types of hummingbird you can expect to see.
