Besides the hiking up to and around Refugio José Ribas, visitors to Parque Nacional Cotopaxi have several other treks they may undertake to discover the natural beauty, flora and fauna of this landscape.
· Volcán Rumiñahui – From the campground between Estación Mariscal Sucre and Laguna Limpiopungo, you can access a trail that goes to Volcán Rumiñahui. This spectacular walk takes 6-8 hours round trip. In reality, walking most any path through the páramo from either the campgrounds or Lago Limpiopungo, towards the ridge to the right of the southernmost peak of Rumiñahui, will lead you to the peak.
· Vuelta al Cotopaxi – This is a moderate, six to seven-day trek around the base of Volcán Cotopaxi. The 75-kilometer (46-mi) circuit, which begins at the Lasso entrance and ends at Mulaló, is best done June-January.
· Trek of the Cóndor – Considered one of the best treks in Ecuador, this challenging, 60-kilometer (36-mi) hike begins at El Tambo, near Papallacta, and ends at Laguna Limpiopungo in Parque Nacional Cotopaxi. The three- to five-day expedition goes past Antisana and Sincholagua volcanoes, through cloud forest and across páramo.
