WONDERFUL PLACE, PEACEFUL
Hosteria La Cienega has many positive elements going for it. It is very grand, the main building and grounds are very well kept, the food is excellent and the service is superb. The staff are all friendly and accommodating. The one slightly negative comment that I would make is that certainly the room that I stayed in could have done with a touch-up of paint - the walls were not looking as healthy as they could have. My room was not in the main building, and I am sure that the rooms in the building are better maintained. Other than that minor detail, my stay was really lovely. Rumour has it that there are ghosts in the main building, and I think that we heard one whilst we were in the TV room watching a film.
After seeing an old run-down sign and a funky wrought iron archway, you turn into the long gravel road on your way to finding the hacienda. The first place that you get to, on the right, is the hotel Posada del Rey. Keep going, because when you finally come up on the real hacienda, you feel like you´ve died and gone to Tara! This place is TOO FABULOUS, for only $66 a night for a double! It makes the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia look like a doghouse! If you´re into architecture and history--and want to be near one of better known volcanoes, DO THIS HACIENDA!
