The cheapest of the three options, but comparable in quality, Cloud Forest is well run and a great value choice for backpackers. Rooms are a bit small but open onto an airy balcony and chill outdoor common area with thatched-grass covered picnic tables and hammocks scattered about. The large dining and lounge area, reminiscent of a ski lodge, is perfect for unwinding après-hike with its cozy woodstove and festive corner bar, serving up everything from cappuccino to piña coladas to whiskey. There’s also a book exchange and internet for $5 an hour if you’re desperate. At $8 per person with shared bath including breakfast and a hearty dinner (add $2 for private bath), the place is a real area bargain.

The owners and staff were spectacular at accomodating our needs. The description doesn`t include the fact that dinner is also included in the price (and they can even provide vegan food). Also Jose´s email address is josecloudforest(at)gmail.com. We enjoyed the lounge and meeting people around the wood stove. Jose, who is from here, is a great supporter of the local indigenous community. They have a website too (no T in forest)http://www.cloudforeshostal.com/
The owner and staff were super friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. I look forward to staying there again some day.
Was our 3rd option to stay in Chugchilan and unfortunately the Black Sheep and Mama Hilda's were fully booked. The room smelt damp and I never felt comfortable.
