The cheapest of the three options, but comparable in quality, Cloud Forest is well run and a great value. Its cozy and inviting atmosphere is comforting amid the freezing and unforgiving Andean air. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and attentive; they definitely like to keep their guests happy and warm!

Rooms are a bit small but include 24-hour hot water and open on to an airy balcony with hammocks (if you can brave the cold). The main floor has a cozy ski chalet-like communal area with a very hot fireplace and ample seating -- perfect for warming up, winding down, or mingling with other travelers. The lounge also sells locally made crafts and clothing, and has a book exchange (two-for-one, or one-for-one with an extra $1.50 charge).

The kitchen serves up great meals and even offers alternatives for vegans and vegetarians. There's internet for $5 an hour if you’re desperate. At $8 per person with shared bath including dinner (add $2 for private bath and $2 for breakfast), Hostal Cloud Forest is a real bargain. If you're taking the bus back to Latacunga, be sure to tell the owners: they can inform you of the exact time of departure (which is painfully early, between 3 and 4am).

The owners and staff were spectacular at accomodating our needs. The description doesn`t include the fact that dinner is also included in the price (and they can even provide vegan food). Damp

Was our 3rd option to stay in Chugchilan and unfortunately the Black Sheep and Mama Hilda's were fully booked. The room smelt damp and I never felt comfortable.
