Hotel

By Caroline Bennett

A diamond in the rough of the concrete village that is Quilotoa, the Crater Lake Lodge is certainly unique among area accommodations, though you’ll pay for the difference. The hacienda-style lodge was built with respect for the environment and lush surrounding area in mind, and offers clean and comfortable double and triple rooms. Travelers on a budget can seek refuge in the camping area, though remember that nights can be quite chilly in the Andes. A well decorated restaurant with panoramic views and a massive stone fireplace is home to hearty local and international cuisine. Note the several dogs, cats, turkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, roosters, hens, pheasants, peacocks and llamas on grounds.

Worth a visit.

Rating: 100%

A very friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Meals are excellent and rooms quite comfortable. Staff are most helpful and full of information not only about the area but about the entire country. A "homey" environment with a varied menagerie of animals. Great value.

Crate lake Lodge

Rating: 100%

Hacienda style lodge next to Quilotoa crater, one of Ecuadors most beautiful sights.
If you intend to stay the night in Quilotoa there are three choices. Your own tent, one of the few Hostals with bunkhouse bedrooms which dot the building site that is Quilotoa village or the Luxury that is the Crater lake lodge.
About ten times the price of the others, by European standards this is still very cheap, it is a real treat to stay here. Beds are comfortable, each with their own overblanket as it gets really cold at night. The showers are good and bathrooms are equipped with hairdryers. Breakfast is included, dinner costs an extra $8 with drinks on top. The staff are very attentive and the owner speaks excellent english. The views over the village are impressive and the morning views over the high andes stunning. For the 3 weeks we stayed in Ecuador this was my favourite hotel and was well worth the extra expense.
