The second to last place on the left as you walk from town to the crater, Princesa Toa is organized by the Fundacion Ecuatoriana del Habitat and is a community-run hostel. Though accommodations are basic, the indigenous locals who work there are friendly and proud. One large dorm has 6 beds of various sizes, and across the hall there are two simple doubles. Prices include breakfast and dinner in a pleasant open dining room upstairs, which is also a good place to grab a cup of coffee and take a last look at the map before heading off on the trail if you’re just passing through.
