An old sprawling hacienda, La Posada de Tigua is a working farm-turned-guesthouse with an authentic feel and a warm host. While this place may sound a bit pricey for the region, you pay for hat you get here, and it’s worth it. Seven cozy rooms of varying décor and layout make up the first floor of a large farmhouse, convening in a snug living room with a woodstove and old west feel. The farm works to fuel the posada, providing fresh veggies, milk, yogurt and meats that the family transform into some tasty meals that would give your grandma a run for her money. Be sure to try the yogurt made on-site mixed with manjar de leche -- an incredible caramel treat! Hosts are more than happy to show you the farm, send you off on horses, or even take a stab at milking the cows or riding a llama. The low room price includes breakfast and dinner; the highprice includes three meals a day. You can rent horses for $5 per hour. Tours to Quilotoa are $40, and transport to Latacunga (for up to 5 people) is also available for $40. Also, if you call to indicate what time and on what bus you will arrive, someone from La Posada will come to meet you at the station.

Fantastic place with stunning views - Margarita and Marco couldn't have been friendlier - especially putting up with my ropy spanish. They took kids riding on llamas, let them milk the cows, and cooked the most fantastic meals. In the evening sitting by the stove with a beer was really cosy. They will have added the rest of the en suite bathrooms by now - and while fairly basic - the posada's a great place to chill for a night or two on the circuit.
