Hostal Condor Matzi

Zumbahua, Ecuador

Hotel

By Caroline Bennett

This market-side hostel used to be about the only show in town and has gotten more guidebook coverage than the others, but isn’t your only bet these days. The building is a bit tired and sits to the left of the church on the main square facing the mountains. Simple and cheap, it’ll do for a night. Call ahead, or ask around at the corner store if you arrive and no one is there to let you in. For a buck the hostel will also watch your bags for the day even if you aren’t staying there so you won’t have to lug them around the market.
