Munaylla is a neat, quiet hostel that's stuffed with antiques and is close to the center of town. The rooms are bright and pleasant. Some of the upper level rooms have decent views, and are only $5, though they don't have private bathrooms or TV. The rooms that don't have windows facing outside should be avoided. Since Munaylla is the tallest building for some distance, there are great views from the easily reached rooftop. The hostel is popular with Ecuadorian families, but there aren't any real common areas, so don't expect to meet many fellow travelers. No rooms are wheelchair accessible; there is at least one flight of stairs to even the lowest rooms.
