Guayabillas Animal Rescue Center - Other Activity Ibarra - Ecuador

Set in a park of 4.6 hectares (11.36 ac) overlooking Ibarra, the Guayabillas Animal Rescue Center is a wonderful place to visit. Founded in 2005, the center houses dozens of animals, most of whom were rescued from being traded illegally. Over 900 animals have been brought to the center since it began, with the majority being successfully released back into the wild. Species include monkeys, lions, Galapagos tortoises, sloths, parrots and more. If you'd like to stay longer than a day, the center also has a volunteer program; volunteers help to feed and care for the animals while staying with a local host family or at the center itself (minimum stay one week; contact the center for prices and more information). To get to Guayabillas, ask a taxi to take you to Loma de Guayabillas (no more than $2), from where you can walk to the center.
