The largest hotel complex at Laguna Yaguarcocha is located on the northeast side of Ibarra away from the city and in a valley. Imperio del Sol looks out over the sprawling lake with a backdrop of voluptuous rolling green mountains. Clean and comfortable, the rooms all have private bathrooms with hot water, cable TV and telephones.

A bright, sunny, yet quiet place, the hotel offers volleyball, tennis and squash courts. An amazing outdoor patio is often the centerpiece for local weddings and conferences. Although breakfast is not included, for $2.50 an "Americano" breakfast -- eggs, bread, juice or coffee -- can be had at the Imperio del Sol Restaurante Snag yourself a table near the windows for a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. At night, after a dinner which runs for about $5.50, stick around, have a drink from the bar and watch the karaoke or piano player, whichever happens to be on tap for the night. During the day, if you want to stroll on the racetrack which encircles the lake, you can always have the restaurant box you a lunch to take with you for $2.50.

Getting There:
Situated on the northeast side of Ibarra in the valley. It is a 25 cent bus ride, or 3 dollar taxi jaunt. Just say Laguna Yahuarocha and anyone in Ibarra will know what you are talking about and take you to the lake.

Superior Hotel - Breath-taking

Our family enjoyed the entire visit. The hotel and restaurant are superb. The quality of the food and atmosphere is top notch and we highly recommend it. It is a perfect place for well needed rest and relaxation. Mr. Acosta, Hotel owner, graciously arranged tours to local sights and personnaly oversaw our comfort and satisfaction.
