If you’re one for rustic, but comfortable and charming accommodation, then Hacienda Chorlavi is the place to unpack. A converted colonial hacienda, complete with whitewashed buildings and a monastery-converted cocktail bar, this lovely place is bursting with character. Set among manicured gardens and palm-fringed grounds, the buildings recall another era while the modern amenities keep guests at ease. Rooms are appointed with period furnishing, big beds and private bathrooms. Even if you don’t plan on spending the night, stop by and dine in the locally famous restaurant, a popular spot for Ecuadorian families. On weekends you can indulge in local fare while enjoying live music, though, be warned, this place fills to the brim on Saturdays and Sundays so you’re advised to make a reservation. To take a meal in the inner-courtyard, bathed in sunlight and bursting with the sound of easy-weekend chatter, is well worth the trouble.
