Those on a budget or interested in spending the night in a converted colonial building should make their way to Imbabura. The hotel is complete with an interior courtyard, soaring ceilings and a distinct monastery-like feel. Rooms are simple, but spotless, and some boast excellent views of the stunning scenery spread across Ibarra’s horizon. Although it has the backpacker’s hearts, anyone who values character and quality, or who prefers to drop their bags someplace with a bit more color than generic hostals and chain hotels, will fall in love with the warmth and charisma of the Imbabura.

This is a very nice colonial place. The owner Pepe is always there to give you information and make you feel at home. There is a great restaurant called La Pileta where the pizza is really good.
